Things You Need To Do Once Your website Is Complete

Congratulations – another part of the adventure is complete – You have your own website!  However, a website needs follow up – Let the world know you have arrived!  Here are things you should do in the 4-6 weeks after getting a website.

1. 1. Add your website to your Facebook page – use http:// in front of your name, eg http://www.BusinessWebsitesGoldCoast.com. This turns it into a clickable backlink.

1. 1. Do the same for your Youtube account if you have one.

1. 1. Same for your Twitter account if you have one.

1. 1. Create a Gumtree Ad and add your website (costs $5 but well worth it). Add at least 6 pictures and 500 or more words.

1. 1. Add your website to your Business Card (hand out 4-5 cards each time, so that people can “pass you on”). Give business cards to ALL of your employees to hand out.

1. 1. Add your website to Flyers etc – both your Business Card and Flyers have limited space, but your website has plenty of space – use it.

1. 1. Add your website to Local Directories. As a minimum (in Australia), Local Search, Pure Local, Yelp.com.au, Start Local, Hot Frog, White Pages, Yellow Pages, Aussie Web, WOMO. For all of them, link back to your website if free (If it costs, evaluate it).

1. 1. Seek “Alliances” with COMPLIMENTARY businesses that do NOT compete with you and market them. For example, Electricians and Plumbers can hand out each other’s business cards, as can Hairdressers and Beauticians (just examples). Consider a “Recommended Businesses” page on your website – provided they do the same for you.

1. 1. Notify existing clients that you have a website – just a quick text or email – especially if you have a “repeat business” style, and ask them to recommend you to others.

1. 1. Consider Adwords, at least initially (check out http://www.AWAA.com.au) Adwords can get you results in days, whereas getting into Google organically can take weeks, even months (doing the things above will definitely speed it up).

IMPORTANT – Do it over 4-6 weeks. If you do all the above in 2 days – and then nothing ever again, it looks unnatural to Google.  Commit to doing a couple of hours each week for 4-6 weeks.
